Beautiful York is known best for its rich history, stunning architecture, boutique retail stores; and most recently its growing street food culture. With an abundance of traditional and internationally inspired vendors, the York street food scene offers some delectable, affordable dining experiences to tantalise the taste buds of all travellers alike. Below are some of my top picks for some tasty treats and fulfilling feasts.
Located a short stone throw from one of the oldest market streets in Europe, Shambles Kitchen offers a modern twist on the classic English ingredients and flavours. A hot spot amongst locals for a quick bite on the run, this fine establishment offers a selection of burgers, wraps, sandwiches and snacks suited for all dietary requirements.
Located at “New York – Spark” – a hub for street food, craft beer, Dr Martens, big beards and rolled up jeans – Clucking Oinks is my top spot for a better than KFC, juicy chicken experience. A decent selection of disgustingly amazing burgers and fries, cooked by the arguably the hippest residents of York, full of flavour and flare put Clucking Oinks on the map as on of York’s most established street food hangouts. I would recommend pairing your chicken choice with a craft beer from a neighboring vendor to complete the experience.
Stam & Maria Greek Street Food York
There is a pretty good reason Stam & Maria is one of the highest rated places to dine in York. Located in the picturesque Sambles Stam & Maria offer the finest Greek inspired street food suitable for all diets. This definitely makes it the perfect place to stop to recharge the batteries during a big day of venturing York. Healthy & light wraps, salads & more make it a popular stop for tourists and locals when visiting the historic centre. I highly recommend popping in and seeing the friendly staff if your chasing a light lunch whilst on the go!

YES – The name says it all, really- traditional English roast dinner transformed into trendy street food! The York Roast Co. has established itself not just as a top street food vendor, but as a tourist attraction as people come from far and wide to sample their famous Yorkshire pudding bowls and wraps. Chicken, Beef, Pork & vegetarian options are available with all the trimming, in your choice of dine in or take away / Yorkshire pudding wrap or bowl!
