With the Summer in full swing, nothing gets you away from the muggy heat like a refreshing swim. If you don’t have the time to get all the way to the coast, don’t worry; just pack your swimsuit and hop on the underground. We’ve got a list of the top summer swim destinations to go for a day or night out, without having to leave the city.

Hampstead Heath Swimming Ponds

Hampstead Heath, where C.S. Lewis found his inspiration to write The Chronicles of Narnia, has been a popular London swimming spot for centuries. Only 4 miles from the city centre, inside Zone 2, its proximity to the busy life of London doesn’t affect the shade and peacefulness of the park’s 800 acres. The chilly water is the perfect fix on a hot weekend.

Fulham Beach

With day beds, huts, and cabanas within their club-style lounge, Neverland London (Fulham Beach) has everything you’d want for a fun time with friends. Partying on the dance floor or laying on a curtained day bed in the sand, the live music and events that are put on will not cease to both entertain and relax you.

The Serpentine Lido

In the heart of London’s iconic Hyde Park, the Serpentine Lido is a great spot for swimming, sunning, picnicking, or anything in between. With the city skyline visible through the trees, it’s the right amount of calm inside the busyness. Arrive early to avoid the crowds, or stick around to socialise as the park teems with life on any day of the Summer. Within a short walking distance of both Astor Kensington and Astor Hyde Park, it’s a getaway at your doorstep.

The Montague Beach Bar

The Montague at The Gardens in Bloomsbury is the top choice for a drink in the sand in one of London’s most luxurious neighborhoods. Newly opened and available for both private parties or casual drinks with your friends, you can swap your work shoes for flip flops and relax with a cocktail and summer BBQ.

London Fields Lido

If you’re looking to get your exercise in, the London Fields Lido has heated, Olympic size pools for lap swimming. If you’re looking for something more relaxed, head up to their massive sun deck or grab a refreshment at the cafe. They also have lessons and recreational swimming areas, so you can have your choice at how to enjoy one of London’s best swimming pools.
