The Udderbelly Festival London
As the weather warms up, the culture scene is reawakening for another season. And if you’ve walked along the South Bank lately, you may have noticed the more obvious festival venue on the London skyline – a giant, purple, upside-down cow.
This is the Udder Belly festival. If you’re a theatre or a cabaret nut, or just craving a dose of offbeat culture, this festival is definitely worth a look. The Udder Belly festival was born at the Edinburgh Fringe, and has now joined forces with the South Bank centre to produce this top-notch summer festival, which now includes the London Wonder Ground, London’s largest festival of cabaret and circus.
We’ve seen The Tiger Lillies, a melancholic avante-garde cabaret band (not for the faint-hearted or easily offended!) and Show Stoppers – improvised musical comedy created entirely from audience suggestions.
The pop-up bar, complete with astro-turf, outdoor heaters and wooden pagola huts provides an ambient shelter from the city to enjoy a cold pint two, and is well worth a look whether or not you plan to check out a show.
The Udderbelly festival runs until the 13th of July. For more information check out www.udderbelly.co.uk
