London Gay Pride Festival 2014
The chair of Pride in London, Michael Salter said: “Our theme for 2014 is ‘Freedom to…’. Freedom to… be ourselves, love who we want, change society, live without fear, be an Olympic medal winner… Whatever the Freedom is that you cherish, this is the chance to celebrate it.”
London is a city of such diversity, where people from every corner of the world, of all backgrounds, of all motivations live. By celebrating Gay Pride in London it talks to a global community not present in other cities in the UK or around the world!
Most of us have seen the elaborate, colourful and crazy outfits present in the Gay Pride walks in cities around the world; dancing, theatre performance, smiling and waving signs.
This month London is host to its very own Gay Pride Festival for a week-long celebration beginning on 22nd June and culminating with the most extravagantly awesome Pride Parade, which follows a route from Baker Street on 28 June at 1pm to Whitehall via Oxford Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, Lower Regent Street, Pall Mall and Trafalgar Square. This final parade will feature more than 180 dancers and performers and more than 15,000 spectators are expected to turn up to watch this magnificent showcase of gay and lesbian culture in the city.
Last year 65,000 people turned up to dance and celebrate Gay Pride and this year it is hoped to be even bigger – so come down with us as we go crazy and celebrate too!
