Independent coffee shops in London

One thing a lot of travellers miss when they leave their own city is their favourite coffee places – when you’re in a new city and you walk past all of the popular chains your first thought is – “where are the independents? Where is the coffee culture that London is so famous for?” Well our staff our also obsessed with good coffee from small time businesses brimming with personality – and here are the secrets they wish to share with you.

Talkhouse Coffee: 275 Portobello Rd, London W11 1LR
Just a 20 minute walk from the Astor Queensway Hostel – at the end of the famous Portobello road market this coffee place is a quiet haven where you can escape the busy street and enter the quiet minimalist atmosphere and take a deep breath. This coffee house not only has beautiful tasting hand selected coffee beans from around the world but also delicious homemade cakes and sweets (a staff favourite are the homemade apricot and pumpkin seed flapjacks). We recommend this place for anyone who wants to escape the busy bustle of the city and feel tranquillity whilst they take a sip of great coffee.

Daylesford organic: 208-212 Westbourne Grove, London W11 2RH
This organic haven doesn’t just specialise in coffee but in great farm produced organic food too. Just a 10 minute walk from the Astor Queensway Hostel it’s a great place to sit and enjoy a relaxed lunch or coffee. The coffee here is some of the best in London and we recommend that you come here yourself and try out their amazing beans!

JOE & THE JUICE, 281 Regent Street, W1B 2HE London
Close to the Oxford Circus tube station on the central is not so independent now they have some stores around the world (and a few in London) they serve great coffee, in a rustic environment and always have the best juices around – in case you have already hit your caffeine maximum for the day. You can choose what kind of effect you want your juice to have from energising to relaxing! We highly recommend it!

Monmouth coffee, 27 Monmouth Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9EU
This coffee place close to Covent Garden is one of a few in London – having been selling coffee here for the last 30 years – they really are popular here in London! Their shabby-chic interior, relaxing interior is what we love about it – but what we love the most is their amazing home-roasted coffee! IF you’re shopping around the famous Covent Garden Market (you can reach it on the Piccadilly line) it’s the perfect place to get your caffeine fix!

Our staff loves these local independents and we hope you travellers will love them too!
